Feast of the Presentation of the Lord
Forty days after his birth, Jesus was brought to the Temple to be presented to the Lord, following the law which prescribed this for all firstborn males.
While there, the old man Simeon prophesied that the child would be ‘a light to enlighten the nations’.

Candles will blessed at the 10.00 Mass in Kilbrittain on Sat morning next. Candles can be left in the church, beside the sacristy door, during the week.

Sun, 3rd Feb: St Blaise
He was a bishop who was martyred for his faith. During his life he had a reputation as a miraculous healer.
Throats will be blessed at Masses on Saturday night next (8.00 pm) and on Sunday Morning (10.30 am).

Parish Bereavement

MAY KEARNEY (nee MADDEN), Kilbrittain Village. Unexpectedly at home Mon 21st Jan.  We extend our sympathies to her husband, Brendan, her daughters, Martina (O’Mahony), Linda (Fehily), Jacqueline (McSweeney) and Sylvia (Curran), her son Adrian, her brothers and sisters, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. Loving mother of the late John Raymond and Justin. Reposing at her home in Kilbrittain Village on Thursday evening, 24th January. Reception into St Patrick’s Church, Kilbrittain, on Friday 25th at 10.30 for 12.00 noon Requiem Mass. Burial in local cemetery.

Caroline McCarthy, Farnagark.
On Thurs, Jan 10th (5th Anniversary of her mother’s death). Youngest daughter of the late John and Nora and dear sister of the late Brendan, Elizabeth and Petrina and sister-in-law of the late Micheál. Sadly missed by her loving brother Tim, sisters Esther (Sheehy), Mary (Murphy), Bernie (Cronin), Helen (McCarthy), Margaret (Madden), Pauline (Murphy), Veronica (O’Shea) and Geraldine (Holland), sister-in-law Majella, brothers-in-law Finbarr, Denis, Humphrey, J.J., Finbarr and Frank, aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, grandniece, grandnephews, neighbours, relatives and a large circle of friends.
Lying in repose at Gabriel and O’Donovan’s Funeral Home, Bandon on Saturday eve from 6-30pm followed by Removal at 9pm to St. Patrick’s Church, Kilbrittain. Funeral on Sunday after 10-30am Mass to the adjoining cemetery.
